Abstract

This study aimed to identify the methodological challenges faced by researchers and the strategies adopted to overcome them in research and outreach projects involving rural populations exposed to pesticides. It is a methodological, qualitative study with a descriptive and exploratory approach. The methodology included reflection and discussion meetings among the researchers/ authors, a narrative literature review, and a synthesis of recommendations. The results highlighted difficulties in communicating with communities, conducting field activities, and disseminating scientific findings, especially in the face of cultural and logistical barriers, as well as funding shortages. The strategies to overcome these challenges involved the production of materials adapted to the cultural and linguistic context of the communities, strengthening dialogue with community leaders, interinstitutional partnerships, and the adoption of alternative fundraising strategies. It is concluded that the effectiveness of research and outreach projects in this context depends on the adoption of participatory and collaborative approaches, as well as careful planning of the proposed stages.
